The family of a nine-year-old girl who died after being found seriously injured in Arbroath have said they are “devastated” at her loss, as a man appeared in court charged with her murder.
Police have named the girl as Minnie Merriman from West Yorkshire. She died in Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital on Monday.
A 35-year-old man, who police said was known to the girl, has appeared in court charged with her murder.
Christopher Rice from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, made no plea during an appearance in private at Forfar Sheriff Court and was remanded in custody.
